The man with the chainsaw during field service
It was a typical Saturday morning. I have been to service since I can remember, so this was just another normal day of Witnessing in the territory. Where I went was very remote territory. We would spend approximately 1 hour to get there, and another one to get back. I was with my group's book study conductor ( I believe that is what it was called at the time, it has been so long), a Ministerial servant in his late 20's, we will call him Mario. He was cool.
16 at the time, I was also with an older Sister, in her 50's, and Mario's mother and 2-3 others that I cannot recall who they were. So we arrive to a house, one I personally had not visited before. Mario asks the older Sister and I to go and knock. We go, we meet a man in his 20's and the sister proceeds with her introduction, promising a future where we will never suffer, live forever and be happy.
Except this guy did not seem happy. He seemed confused and annoyed. He proceeds to say in Spanish "Is this a Joke?" and the Sister says "No this is not a joke, we are here to talk about the good news" (or something like that because I cannot remember her exact words). She tried to give him a Watchtower and Awake and reads him a couple of scriptures about hope. He turns angry, and the sister notices, so we leave confused. Then as we walk to Mario's Ford Explorer, he comes out of the back of the house with a chainsaw trying to turn it on. When he turns it on, he starts to walk towards us.
In that moment, both the Sister and I freak out! We wanted to flee but we couldn't. In that instant Mario comes out and gets in front of him and starts speaking with him. He puts down the chainsaw, turning it off.
Well, what we did not know, was that Mario and his mom, knew the man and his family. The man was a return visit but for one reason or another they stopped visiting. The man's father had recently passed away, and he thought that Mario was playing a cruel prank on him by sending us instead of them, because he knew the Ford explorer and knew it was them that were in the car.
I was so glad that Mario came out in that moment, possibly sparring our lives. Who know's what his true intentions were, maybe he wanted to prank us! I was upset at Mario, that he knew the family, and yet he sent us instead. Luckily, we all went home alive and nothing bad happened. Since I was not the adult, I kept my mouth shut, I do not think I even told my mother!
